Is DEF the same as diesel?
The short answer is NO.
Since both are used by diesel vehicles, you may think DEF and diesel are the same.
While they share a few similarities, DEF differs significantly from diesel in several ways, including how it is produced, what it is used for, and so on.
Production of DEF and diesel
DEF is made from 32.5% pure urea and 67.5% deionized water. On the other hand, diesel is produced by refining crude oil, alongside gasoline, propane, kerosene, and other products.
The function of DEF and diesel
We all know what diesel is used for. Your diesel truck needs it to function. Without diesel, it cannot run.
On the contrary, DEF has nothing to do with powering vehicles. So your trucks can run just fine without DEF.
Instead, DEF is designed to work on the exhaust of diesel engines before it exits the tailpipe. It breaks down the pollutants in the exhaust into nitrogen and water, reducing dangerous emissions into the environment.
Diesel makes your vehicle run, while DEF makes diesel exhaust cleaner. DEF is good for the environment and improves air quality, among other benefits.

DEF also differs from diesel as it is available in prepackaged quantities. We offer DEF in various sizes, including 2.5 gal jugs, 330 gal totes, and in bulk, depending on your needs.
